Nancy E. Halpern,
DVM is Director of the New
Jersey Department of Agriculture's Division of Animal Health. Prior to her
appointment, she served as assistant director of livestock disease control (1999
to 2002). Dr. Halpern has been owner of
Large Animal Medical Associates since 1987, and has served as resident in
theriogenology at the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine and
clinical instructor in ambulatory medicine at Virginia Tech's College of
Veterinary Medicine. She has also served as an ambulatory medicine intern at
Cornell; externships at both the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and
Metropolitan Toronto Zoo; and as a research fellow at the San Diego Zoo,
Oklahoma City Zoo and Royal Rotterdam Zoological and Botanical Garden in the
Netherlands. A graduate of Duke and Purdue Universities, Dr. Halpern is the recipient of many awards, including the New Jersey Association of Equine Practitioners’ "Equine Practitioner of the Year" (2000) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary’s Honor Awards for her work with West Nile Virus (2001).
