JUNIOR BREEDER AND YOUNG FARMER SYMPOSIUM
ANNOUNCED FOR SATURDAY, MARCH 11, 2006
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (January 10, 2006) – The Equine Science Center and numerous faculty with Cook College and Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension will participate in the 2006 New Jersey Junior Breeder and Young Farmer Symposium on Saturday, March 11, 2006, on the Cook College campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
The symposium, sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, will begin at 9 a.m. and will focus on careers in the agricultural industry, with hands-on sessions for dairy, equine, beef, swine, goats, rabbits and poultry. The equine portion will showcase the expertise of prominent members of the Equine Science Center and Cook College’s Department of Animal Sciences. Dr. Ken McKeever will present the high-speed equine treadmill; Dr. Carey Williams will highlight important nutrition guidelines; and Dr. Michael Westendorf will offer insight into composting solutions. Additionally, Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension agents Donna Foulk and Bob Mickel will speak at both the morning and afternoon sessions on poisonous plants and animal identification.
The $12 fee for the full-day programs includes lunch. The poultry and rabbit programs take place in the afternoon only for a $5 fee.
