ANIMAL WASTE MANAGEMENT


INFORMATION SESSIONS PLANNED


Three Regional Sessions Scheduled for May



    TRENTON, NJ (April 22, 2005) – The New Jersey Department of Agriculture, the United State Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resource Conservation Service, Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension, and New Jersey Farm Bureau are hosting a series of three outreach sessions in May to discuss the basics of management of animal waste on agricultural operations.


     Topics to be discussed include: reasons for managing animal waste; how animal manure can be used as a resource; information on neighboring states’ programs; basic housekeeping practices; and, an update on the draft New Jersey Department of Agriculture Animal Waste Management Rule.

 

     The public is welcome to attend. Their questions and comments will be taken. Light refreshments will be served.

 

     All sessions will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, May 4

    Rutgers Eco-Complex

    1200 Florence-Columbus Rd.

    Bordentown (Burlington County)

    Directions: From Interstate 295, take exit 52 towards Columbus. The Eco-Complex is on the right.


  • Wednesday, May 11

    Salem County Agricultural Complex

    Ware Building

    51 Cheney Road

    Woodstown (Salem County)

    Directions from the North: Take the NJ Turnpike to Exit 2. Go right onto 322 East, to "T" intersection in Mullica Hill. Turn right onto Rt. 45 South. As you travel through Mullica Hill you will need to make a right to continue on Rt. 45. (You will see a cemetery on your right.) Proceed to the corner of Woodstown. At the light, to right onto Rt. 40/45 West. Go straight through the next light, which has a Wawa on the corner. The road will become Rt. 45 again. Pass Salem Vo-Tech on the left, and take the first left after the Vo-tech onto Cheney Rd. The Ware building is on the left.

    Directions from the South: Take Rt. 55 North to the Rt. 40 exit. Take Rt. 40 West through Woodstown. Proceed straight through the light in the center of town. Continue straight at the Wawa intersection on to Rt. 45 South. Then follow the directions above from the Wawa intersection.

    Broadway Grange

    Asbury-Broadway Road

    Broadway (Warren County)

    Directions: Go South on Rt. 57 from Washington Borough (Warren County)> Turn left at the Asbury-Broadway Rd. traffic light. The Grange is up the hill on the left.
