4-H Horse Program

Participation
During the 2006-2007 4-H program year, almost 1,900 youth participated in the NJ 4-H Horse and Pony Program, which continues to be 4-H's largest animal project area. Over 325 volunteers are involved in the implementation of club, county, state and national events.

Who Can Participate?
All youth grades 4-13 that have a love of horses. Club members live on farms, in the suburbs and the city. Youth do not need to own a horse or even have access to one. Non-horse owning youth can participate fully in the program through a multitude of educational programs and events.

What are the Objectives of the Program?
The program uses a "Learn By Doing Approach" that focuses on the development of important life skills. Through the educational and equestrian projects youth develop skills in:

  • Leadership
  • Public Speaking
  • Record Keeping
