4-H Horse Program
Participation
During the 2006-2007 4-H program year, almost 1,900 youth participated in the NJ 4-H Horse and Pony Program, which
continues to be 4-H's largest animal project area. Over 325 volunteers are involved in the
implementation of club, county, state and national events.
Who Can Participate?
All youth grades 4-13 that have a love of horses. Club members live on
farms, in the suburbs and the city. Youth do not need to own a horse or
even have access to one. Non-horse owning youth can participate fully in
the program through a multitude of educational programs and events.
What are the Objectives of the Program?
The program uses a "Learn By Doing Approach" that focuses on the development
of important life skills. Through the educational and equestrian
projects youth develop skills in:
- Leadership
- Public Speaking
- Record Keeping
- Problem Solving
- Team Work
- Community Service & Citizenship
